HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

Course Content:

Participants in the HLTAID011 course will learn to:

• Recognize and respond to emergencies using the DRSABCD action plan.

• Perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and utilize Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).

• Provide first aid for a variety of injuries and illnesses, including:

  • Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis

  • Asthma management

  • Burns and scalds

  • Bleeding and wound care

  • Fractures, sprains, and strains

  • Cardiac emergencies (e.g., heart attack)

  • Shock management

  • Seizures, strokes, and unconsciousness

  • Poisoning and toxic substances

  • Heat-related illnesses (e.g., heat stroke)

  • Bites, stings, and envenomation

• Communicate effectively with emergency services and relay crucial information.

• Assess and manage casualties until medical help arrives, including safe handling of injured individuals.

• Navigate legal and ethical considerations related to providing first aid, including privacy and documentation requirements.

What You Will Learn:

• Perform CPR: Execute chest compressions and rescue breaths to ensure oxygenated blood continues flowing to the brain and vital organs.

• Use an AED: Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to deliver an electric shock and help restore a normal heart rhythm in cardiac arrest cases.

• Recognize and Assess Emergencies: Learn to manage unresponsive individuals and provide appropriate care until medical professionals arrive.

• Follow the DRSABCD Action Plan: Understand the critical steps to take during an emergency to maximize chances of survival.
